I have a classical guitar which Ian constructed for me in 2009. Ian's eye for the smallest of detail was very evident, it was craftsmanship at it's best. The tone of the instrument is quite stunning, and exudes depth and balance that results in a very rich sound. A top quality instrument by an accomplished luthier. Quite simply a pleasure to own. Many Thanks Ian.

I am writing this reference for Ian Milne to record my satisfaction with a flamenco guitar he constructed for me in 2009. Its design came from a 2003 Manuel Reyes flamenco guitar plan, was hand made using traditional woods and finished in classical French polish.
My assessment is that Ian has built a quality flamenco guitar. The workmanship is excellent and the sound it produces is typically flamenco. It comes across as bright, alive, clear, balanced, with punch and projection when played hard. Its tone is austere and typifies the sound many flamenco guitars have.
A few days after I purchased the guitar I was fortunate enough to attend a flamenco guitar workshop in Wellington organised by the Spanish Embassy and the New Zealand School of Music. Oscar Herrero (one of Spain’s best flamenco guitarists) was taking the workshop. I asked him for an opinion of the guitar. He played it for some time and said that ‘it had a fantastic sound and was very Spanish’
I have pursued the art of the flamenco guitar, semi-professionally, for more than 27 years and have owned many fine flamenco guitars including those from notable Spanish luthiers such as Gerundino, Conde, and Ramirez.
I am confident to recommend Ian Milne as a constructor of authentic flamenco guitars.
Yours sincerely

I bought your spruce and rosewood ukulele number 48 two days ago. I have been playing it pretty much continuously ever since. By this I mean I have been avoiding work, I have gotten up in the early hours for a play, I have had to construct a new index fingernail. She is a delight to hold, play and look at. This is a lovely instrument - clear sweet and full.
You have made something of real quality and beauty here Ian and I know I'm going to get years of pleasure from her.
Thankyou, sir, thankyou

"I have played several of Ian Milne’s Guitars, to my great satisfaction, and I must say that I love them!
Ian has an unusually fine sense of craftsmanship, that sense where the artist and the craftsman overlap. He has a real understanding of the woods he chooses to use, an artists’ eye for line and appearance, and as a guitarist himself, understands and creates instruments with appropriate sound quality. His guitars have a refined character, ’though not without a rich warmth.’
Being a patient perfectionist, his restoration work is also superb. He has restored an antique Spanish classical guitar for me, so beautifully, that it is nothing short of miraculous, and gives me delight daily.
Ian has also built exquisite children’s or smaller sized guitars, and charming ukuleles." - Marion Arts

"I purchased the last guitar Ian made and can only commend him for his skill and great attention to detail. My guitar has a lovely light bright clear tone and the sound of a fine orchestral string instrument. It has been compared to guitars worth many times what I paid. This is an awesome opportunity to purchase a concert quality handcrafted classical guitar direct from the luthier.
I can assure you, you will not be disappointed "
