About Me
Ian Milne, Guitar maker
"I took up playing classical guitar 10 years ago I repaired a guitar for my niece and then decided to make a small ¾ size guitar for my 5-year-old son.
I used recycled New Zealand native timber and had very little in the way of tools or equipment. This was the beginning of a rewarding and satisfying hobby.
I gained so much satisfaction and enjoyment from doing this that I continued making guitars and developing tools and equipment for each task.
In order to make the cross over from hobby to professional, I participated in a workshop conducted by Dave Freeman, a Canadian Luthier and Luthier Paddy Burgin of Wellington.
One of the highlights of my career so far has been the restoration of a very damaged antique Spanish guitar made by Antonio Carlos Garcia in 1860. It was fascinating to completely strip down this very ornate guitar to its bare bones and return it to its former glory. The knowledge and appreciation I gained was well worth the many hours spent."
To see my instruments, I invite you to visit my workshop in Tauranga, New Zealand.
Please contact me info@milneguitars.co.nz and I’ll be happy to arrange an appointment.
